Creative Problem-Solving

Exceeds the Standard - The photographs are intriguing and the visual impact is outstanding! The Photographs have a strong and definite type of composition. Varied and excellent use of design elements. Attention to visual details are apparent. Positive and negative space work very well together, with no dead space apparent. The photographs communicate the idea of the assignment effectively, clearly with an original, creative approach.

Meets the Standard - The photographs have good composition. Varied and/or good use of design elements. Positive and negative space are working well together, with little dead space. Overall, the purpose/idea of the assignment is communicated well.

Partially Meets the Standard - The photographs are lacking strong compositional skills. The use of the elements of design are not obvious and/or not used well. Positive and negative space are not working well together; dead space is apparent. Little connection to the purpose of the assignment and/or is or confusing.

Does Not Meet the Standard - The photographs are lacking connection to the assignment. Little or no attention to composition or element of design. The Purpose is unclear.

Technical Skills

Exceeds the Standard - Overall, negatives are exposed very well and are high quality. Excellent evidence of contrast, value and clarity in the photographs. The use of depth of field enhances the subject and/or purpose. The quality of printing is fabulous; little or no evidence of dust, scratches or other marks on the photograph. If matting was required, the quality of the cuts and borders are fantastic.

Meets the Standard - The negatives exhibit a good ranges of values from black to white. Minor adjustments may be needed with the overall exposure: the image may be a too contrasted or flat and gray. Clarity lends itself to the subject/image. The quality of printing is done well; minor problems with dust, scratches or other marks on the photograph, but does not take away from the overall visual message. Many details are in focus, but depth of field may not optimally contribute to the subject/composition. If matting was required, the craftsmanship of the cuts are good quality and extraneous marks on the borders are not obvious.

Partially Meets the Standard - Overall, the negatives have exposure issues. The majority are either too dense (dark) or thin(light); the photographs lack in contrast and/or detail. Problems with printing are obvious; many dust scratches, and other marks are apparent. Some problems with clarity; either the subject/focal point is not in clear focus and/or the use of depth of field does not optimally add to the subject or purpose. Matting lacks attention to detail.

Does Not Meet the Standard - The assignment’s criteria was not followed and/or the assignment is not complete.
